I finally got my truck custom tuned. There were a lot of complications at first getting connected since Diablo doesn't give the local CMR shop all the needed tools for the newer GM trucks. We started around 8am and finally finished after 6 pm. The final results were 343 rear wheel hp and 389 rear wheel tq. Many of the performance shops around here (including JBA) claim that the GM trucks have 25% drivetrain loss. This sounds like a lot to me but even with 20% the flywheel hp is about 428.

*The first dyno run was 304 rwhp and 349 rwtq. I plan to run at the track tomorrow night. Last year my best run was 9.8 in 1/8.

all needed tools for newer gm trucks??   like what??   if the shop has the diablosport CMR tuning software, that's all they need...

all the other apps you need to import/export tune files from the tool are available as free downloads from their site...

so what didn't they have???

I got the tune done at Dante's Modular Performance in National City, CA. (in San Diego) Dante had to use some other software to get it tuned. It was a big pain for a while because the software for the Diablo that he had on his multiple laptops wouldn't even read the vehicle sometimes. Then most of the time it wouldn't even show certain cells like the rpms. So we could see numbers which we knew were, for example spark advance, but it wouldn't show the rpms throughout the entire columns. It ended up running my battery dead. I'm just glad it is done now, I feel bad for him because he worked so hard to get my truck all straightened out. I recommend this guy to anyone in the Southern California area. I hope this post will help him get all the tools he needs (or updates or w/e).

sounds like he's not setup to be an actual diablosport CMR tuner, or has the CMR software installed correctly...

cuz #1, you don't have to be hooked up to the vehicle to tune it...  you create a custom tune file on the PC, then import the file to the predator/trinity handheld, then you use the handheld to install the tune to the vehicle...

and #2, doesn't sound like he has the correct software...  cuz everything is in there and shows correctly... unless he exported the tune files from the tool wrong, using the wrong app... so he got the wrong tune file format...  but again, you don't have to be connected to the vehicle to tune it with the CMR software, it doesn't work like that... so not really sure what he was doing there, or if he even knew... heh...

but, in any event, glad you got your truck straightened out...

 Cheers

Thanks Monte,

I've still got another year and I will have my associates in automotive technology, then I want to specialize in GM LS. At the moment I am having a hard time finding any performance shops that will take me in as an intern. I'm saying this just because I want to do my own performance work in a shop of my own someday. I know you didn't need to hear my life story. Thanks for all the advice.  Cheers back at ya!
